Firefighter Chili Cookoff

Official Rules and Regulations

The following rules are to be adhered to by all cook off officials, cooks, judges, and assistants:

1. True chili is defined as any kind of meat or combination of meats cooked with chili peppers, various other spices, and various other ingredients. For this cook off, the use of beans or pasta are strictly prohibited.

2. Entry fee will be $30.00 per chili entered. This fee will get you a 10x10 spot at the cook off and entitle you to one chili entry for judging. Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place chili with an additional trophy for the "People's Choice". Departments may bring more than one team.

3. All Chili must be cooked on site the day of the cook off. Each team must supply all ingredients, utensils, and accessories needed to cook and maintain proper temperature for serving. Cups and spoons used for serving the public will be provided.

4.Each contestant must cook a minimum of two (2) gallons of chili, with one cup being collected for judging. All other chili will be for public tasting.

5.Chili may be dispensed to the public only after judging samples have been collected.

6. Cooking will take place at Wingfield Park from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m., at which time judging samples will be collected and the public can begin tasting.

7. Each contestant will be assigned a contestant number by the coordinator along with a styrofoam cup with a lid. Each contestant is responsible for turning in their sample to the judging area by 12p.m.

8. The decision of the judges is final. Winners will be announced at 4p.m.

9. The "People's Choice" award is determined by the public by ballot entry. It is up to you to entice them to try your chili and cast their votes for you. The more chili you make, the more people can taste it, and the more votes you may receive.

10. Please arrive early for set up. There will be a contestant meeting at 7 a.m. to go over rules and regulations and review the day's events.

11. Each team is responsible for policing and cleaning up their area at the end of the day and removing all items from the area. No items shall be allowed to remain after the close of the cook off.
