MISSION STATEMENT:

To serve the Village of Ruidoso Citizens with the best Solid Waste customer service available while promoting a clean and healthy environment and in doing so to protect the interests of the Village of Ruidoso by maximizing proper use of Departmental assets, equipment and personnel. With your cooperation we can eliminate inconveniences to you-the customer. Our goal is to provide a safe environment and to “Keep Ruidoso Beautiful.”

The department is equally committed to provide high quality and efficient service to our internal customers with our Information Technology office and our Building Maintenance staff.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

General Services is comprised of the Solid Waste Department, Information Technology/GIS, and Building Maintenance.

The Solid Waste Department provides trash pickup and disposal for all commercial and residential establishments in the Village. There are over 3500 trash and recycling dumpsters situated throughout the community. Working with the Forestry Department and their guidance the department has a small fleet of grapple trucks that collect brush/slash and pine needles that are currently recycled for use by the community and others. The department also maintains a staff that maintains cleanliness around dumpsters including the clean-up that results from intrusion from our diverse wildlife. We are proud to point out that we divert over 52% of all solid waste collected from the landfill into recycling products. The department also operates a Transfer Station located on Gavilan Canyon that is used to collect and transport waste to the Otero/Lincoln County Landfill in Orogrande, NM. Remember, illegal dumping or spreading solid waste is prohibited by the Village of Ruidoso. The Information Technology/GIS Staff provides internal support to the Village by maintaining all computer hardware and software, the Village IT network, and standardized mapping via an evolving program that includes utility locations and associated data for staff.

The Building Maintenance Staff provides repair and upkeep to all Village buildings as well as initiates and manages outside contractor repair and upgrades as needed.
