The pay scale philosophy of the Ruidoso Police Department is not to pay you more money simply based on your years of experience. Rather, your pay rate is based on the level of advanced training (beyond the academy) you have recieved. Our community and our department benefit more from a highly trained Officer.

Here is the Pay Rate for our department. You must possess certificates for all advanced training, indicating hours, and the advanced training must be accepted by NMDPS Advanced Training Bureau.

Shift Differential Pay:

The Ruidoso Police Department understands that varying shifts can put strain upon Officers and their families. Therefore, the department gives shift differential pay for those Officers on Swing Shift and on Graveyards. The differential pay for Swing Shift is an additional $.20 per hour. For Graveyards the differential pay is an additional $.40 per hour.

Special Pay:

The Ruidoso Police Department will provide you with certain equipment once you are hired. However, there will also be equipment you must purchase on your own at hire, and throughout your career. Understanding this, the Ruidoso Police Department gives it's Officers an additional $100.00 per month as a uniform allowance to maintain and buy the needed equipment.

K-9 Officers receive $300.00 per month for uniforms and equipment and related time involved in caring for the canine.

As a new employee, you can receive $900.00, of your first years uniform allowance, up front in your first check. This is to assist with the initial cost of uniforms and equipment.

Field Training Officers with the Ruidoso Police Department receive an additional 3% pay during times of training a new Officer.

The Ruidoso Police Department offers additional pay to those Officers who have obtained a college degree. The amount of pay is as follows:

 - Related Associate Degree           3%
 - Related Bachelor's Degree          5%
 - Related Master's Degree             8%
 - Related P.H.D.                           10%

For unrelated degrees, the corresponding percentage is reduced.

The Village of Ruidoso offers Longevity Incentive pay to reward employees who have chosen to stay with the Village. Each year, near the Christmas Holiday, employees are awarded $4.00 for each month they have been employed with the Village of Ruidoso.
