To become a Reserve Officer with the Ruidoso Police Department you must:

- Be a person of upstanding morals and ethics
- Successfully pass a thorough background investigation
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Pass a written test with a minimum score of 70%
- Obtain a letter of good health from your doctor
- Pass the NMDPS firearm class and score a minimum of 80% on each qualification
- Be willing to donate a minimum of 10 hours a month to riding with Officers or assisting  
  the Police Department
- Purchase certain equipment as a Reserve Officer
- Be willing to attend training classes
