From July 9 - 18, 2012, the Ruidoso Police Department and the National
Gang Resistance and Education Training Program will be conducting a
60-hour G.R.E.A.T. officer training class. Candidates for this class must
meet the following requirements:
- Sworn criminal justice professionals, including state, county, local,
tribal, corrections, military police and federal officers
- Two years of full-time experience in one of the above listed professions.
- Commitment from the officer and their agency to teach G.R.E.A.T. class
to middle school and/or elementary school students during the year
following the training.
Agencies are responsible for student food and transportation. The class is
free for all students and free double-occupancy lodging will be provided
for students traveling over 50 miles to Ruidoso.

The Ruidoso Police Department, in conjunction with the Albuquerque Police
Department, will host DRE training (phases 1 & 2 only) on May 1 - 11, 2012
at the Ruidoso Convention Center. DRE phase 3 training will be in Phoenix, AZ
following the Ruidoso class.
All DRE training is free, however, all costs (food, travel, lodging, etc...) must be
paid up front and then you are reimbursed for all costs within 2-3 weeks. The
flight to Arizona is paid for by the grant up front.
Phase 1: May 1 & 2, 2012: This DRE training consists of definitions, SFST's
and procedures for evaluating people under the influence of drugs. Must pass
phase 1 to proceed to phase 2.
Phase 2: May 3 - 11, 2012: This DRE training consists of drug categories
and physiology. Must pass phase 2 to proceed to phase 3.
Phase 3: Following phase 2: Students will travel to Phoenix, AZ and perform
live field exercises at the Maricopa County jail.

The class will be taught by Stephen McGibbon of Mobile Crime Scene
Academy. Mr. McGibbon is a retired special agent with the Air Force

Students will receive training on general digital camera equipment and
taking photographs in low light, shadow and bright light conditions.
The course will cover how to photograph scene evidence such as shoes,
tires, blood, bodies, etc...
