Village to Celebrate RWWTP Solar Project with November 5 Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

October 28, 2026 (RUIDOSO, NM) — The Village of Ruidoso will celebrate a major energy upgrade at the Ruidoso/Ruidoso Downs Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (RWWTP) with a public ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at 1:30 PM.

The solar project is designed to reduce electric utility costs at the treatment plant, with projected savings of approximately $185,000 each year.

The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting at the RWWTP, located at 26715 US-70 in Ruidoso Downs.

The Village financed the $2.7 million project through a 0% interest loan from the New Mexico Environment Department’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund.

The 952-kilowatt DC (793.3-kilowatt AC) net-metered solar project includes 1,488 640-watt solar photovoltaic (PV) modules installed throughout the wastewater treatment plant site. Construction began in fall 2025.

The installation includes two solar carports, roof-mounted arrays on three buildings, and 14 ground-mounted arrays. The Village will also be able to continuously monitor real-time solar system performance through an online portal maintained by the inverter manufacturer.

The improvements are expected to reduce the facility’s electricity costs by approximately $185,000 annually.

Holt Renewables of Austin, Texas, served as the design-build solar contractor for the project.
