Lincoln National Forest Issues Temporary Cedar Creek Recreation Area Closure Order

October 30, 2026 (RUIDOSO, NM) — The Lincoln National Forest has implemented a temporary closure of much of the Cedar Creek Recreation Area while crews conduct post-fire recovery, forest restoration, hazardous tree removal, and fuels reduction work.

The closure took effect at 6:00 a.m. October 27, 2026, and will remain in effect until midnight on August 30, 2027, or until the order is rescinded, whichever occurs first.

What Is Closed

The closure applies to National Forest System lands, roads, and trails within the designated Cedar Creek closure area. Crews will be operating heavy equipment throughout the area, making the closure necessary for public health and safety while recovery work is underway.

Because the closure includes specific roads, trails, and National Forest lands, residents and visitors should review the official Lincoln National Forest closure order and map before entering the Cedar Creek area.

Cedar Creek Day Use Area Remains Open

The Cedar Creek Day Use Area remains open. However, short-duration closures may be necessary when crews are transporting materials or equipment.

Visitors should use caution around active work areas and follow all posted closure signs and Forest Service instructions.
