2026 Municipal Election

The Lincoln County, New Mexico, 2026 Municipal Election is on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

2026 Municipal Election Information

Election Day

The Municipal Officer Election will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Ruidoso Convention Center, 111 Sierra Blanca Dr., Ruidoso, NM.

Ballot Question

A General Obligation Bond question will also appear on the ballot:

Shall the Village of Ruidoso issue up to $3,000,000 of General Obligation Bonds, to be repaid from property taxes, for the purpose of enlarging, improving, and/or extending the production and distribution components of the Village’s water system?

Will the New Bonds Increase My Taxes?

Residents will not see an increase in property taxes with the continuation of the Water Infrastructure Improvement Bond Program. This General Obligation Bond is part of an ongoing program that sets the mill levy (property tax rate) at a level designed to support the continual approval of $3 million in bonds at each election.

By renewing a GO Bond every two years, voters allow the Village to maintain and improve essential water infrastructure without raising the existing property tax rate.

Offices on the Ballot

The following municipal offices will be elected for four-year terms:

  • Mayor

  • At-Large Councilor

  • At-Large Councilor

  • At-Large Councilor

Candidate Information Packets will be available beginning December 17, 2025 at the Office of the Municipal Clerk, 313 Cree Meadows, Ruidoso, NM.

Candidate Filing

Declarations of Candidacy may be filed on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

To file a Declaration of Candidacy, individuals must be registered to vote on or before December 3, 2025.

The final day for candidates to withdraw is Tuesday, January 13, 2026.

Write-In Candidate Filing

Declarations of Intent to be a Write-in Candidate must be filed on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Write-in candidates may withdraw until Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

Early Voting

Early voting begins Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the:

Office of the Municipal Clerk

313 Cree Meadows, Ruidoso, NM

Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

This is also the first day Absentee Ballots may be issued.

Early Voting will not be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, in observance of Presidents Day.

Saturday, February 28, 2026, is the last day of Early Voting, with hours from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Election Board Members Needed (Poll Workers)

Election Board members (also known as “poll workers”) are currently being appointed for all ten (10) precincts within the Ruidoso Municipal boundaries. 

Election Day – Consolidated Polling Location

One consolidated polling location will be used on Election Day and staffed by a seven (7) member Election Board:

  • One (1) Presiding Judge

  • Five (5) Judge/Clerk

  • One (1) Judge/Clerk/Translator 

Absentee Board

One absentee board site will be staffed by a two (2) member Election Board:

  • One (1) Presiding Judge

  • One (1) Judge/Clerk 

Applications are also being accepted for a standby list.

Important Dates:

  • Tuesday, January 6, 2026: Candidate Filing Day. Please note that to file a Declaration of Candidacy, you must be registered on or before December 3, 2025.

  • Tuesday, January 13, 2026: Write in Candidate Filing Day.

  • Tuesday, February 3, 2026: Early Voting begins at the Clerk’s Office located at 313 Cree Meadows, Ruidoso, NM, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, regular business hours. This is also the first day for Absentee Ballots. Please note: Early Voting will not be held on February 16, 2026, in observance of Presidents’ Day.

  • Saturday, February 28, 2026: Last day of Early Voting at the Clerk’s Office from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm.

  • Tuesday, March 3, 2026: ELECTION DAY! Voting will be held at the Ruidoso Convention Center located at 111 Sierra Blanca Dr., Ruidoso, NM, from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.
