Smokey Bear Ranger Station in Ruidoso Remains Open to Public Despite Alamogordo Closure

June 30, 2025 — The Village of Ruidoso is sharing the following update from the U.S. Forest Service: effective Monday, June 30, 2025, the Lincoln National Forest Supervisors Office in Alamogordo will be closed to walk-in visitors. Staff at the Alamogordo Supervisors' Office will continue to assist the public by appointment only. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (575) 434-7200. This closure will remain in effect until rescinded.

Local District Offices Remain Open

Importantly, the Smokey Bear Ranger District Office, located at 901 Mechem Drive in Ruidoso, remains open to the public and is operating under normal business hours:

Also remaining open is the Sacramento Ranger District Office in Cloudcroft, which shares the same weekday public hours and holiday schedule.

The Guadalupe Ranger District Office will continue serving the public on a limited schedule:

  • Open during the second full week of each month, Tuesday through Thursday, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

  • Please note: only cash or check will be accepted at this location

  • Also closed on federal holidays
