Rio Ruidoso Watershed-Based Plan Open for Public Comment Through October 2
September 2, 2026 (RUIDOSO, NM) — The Village of Ruidoso is inviting residents, property owners, community partners, and other interested stakeholders to review and comment on the Rio Ruidoso Watershed-Based Plan Revised Final Draft during a 30-day public comment period from September 2 through October 2, 2026.
The plan, Rio Ruidoso Watershed-Based Plan: A Guide to Watershed Improvement for Regional Watersheds in the Ruidoso Area, provides a framework for improving watershed conditions and water quality in the Ruidoso area. The Revised Final Draft is dated August 18, 2026, with revisions completed August 28, 2026.
About the Watershed-Based Plan
To enhance and protect watersheds in the region, the Village is preparing a Watershed-Based Plan that would open funding channels through the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The plan provides a comprehensive, stakeholder-driven strategy for protecting and restoring water quality within regional watersheds. It is intended to help improve water quality, guide restoration and protection efforts, promote sustainable land use, support adaptive management, and increase public awareness.
The draft also examines watershed conditions and water-quality impairments, hydrologic and post-fire conditions, best management practices, measurable progress, public outreach, and potential sources of financial assistance.

Residents and interested stakeholders are encouraged to review the complete plan during the public comment period.
