Monsoon Awareness Week 2026 Begins June 7

June 2, 2026 (Ruidoso, NM) — The Village of Ruidoso is joining National Weather Service offices across the Southwest in recognizing Monsoon Awareness Week, June 7–13, 2026.

This year’s theme, “Respect the Storm: Ready. Set. Monsoon.”, encourages residents and visitors to prepare for the hazards that can accompany monsoon season in southern New Mexico, including flash flooding, lightning, extreme heat, high winds, dust storms, and rapidly changing weather conditions.

Throughout the week, the Village will share daily weather safety information and preparedness reminders across its social channels and website homepage social feed focused on key monsoon-related hazards:

• Sunday, June 7 — Introduction to the Monsoon
• Monday, June 8 — Extreme Heat
• Tuesday, June 9 — Flash Flooding & Debris Flows
• Wednesday, June 10 — Lightning Safety
• Thursday, June 11 — Downburst Winds
• Friday, June 12 — Dust Storms
• Saturday, June 13 — Recreation During the Monsoon

Residents are encouraged to review monsoon preparedness information, sign up for emergency alerts, and stay weather-aware throughout the season.
