Final Community Flood Preparedness Workshop Canceled

‍June 1, 2026 (Ruidoso, NM) — Due to weather conditions, the final Community Flood Preparedness Workshop in the Village of Ruidoso’s workshop series has been canceled.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to review the Flood Aware 2026 presentation materials prepared by the National Weather Service Albuquerque and the Village of Ruidoso Emergency Operations Center. The presentation includes important information on monsoon weather patterns, flash flooding, burn scar flooding risks, emergency alerts, flood safety, and preparedness actions for the 2026 monsoon season.

Topics covered in the presentation include:

  • North American Monsoon outlooks and weather patterns

  • Burn scar flooding risks following wildfire impacts

  • Flash Flood Watches vs. Flash Flood Warnings

  • Wireless Emergency Alerts and NOAA Weather Radio

  • Flood safety before, during, and after storm events

  • Review of the July 2025 Ruidoso flooding event

Residents are strongly encouraged to:

  • Have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts and weather warnings

  • Avoid driving through flooded roadways

  • Respect road closures and barricades

  • Stay informed during periods of heavy rainfall and flash flooding potential

  • Prepare evacuation and communication plans in advance
