XTERRA World Championship Road Closures & Traffic Information | October 7–11, 2026

October 6, 2026 (RUIDOSO, NM) — The Village of Ruidoso is advising residents, businesses, and visitors of temporary road closures, traffic-control points, and detours associated with XTERRA World Championship activities taking place October 7–11, 2026.

Motorists traveling through affected areas should plan ahead, allow additional travel time, watch for athletes and event personnel, and follow all posted traffic-control directions.

Center Street Closure: October 7–11

Center Street between Wingfield Street and Spring Street will be completely closed from 7:00 AM Wednesday, October 7, through 7:00 PM Sunday, October 11.

This continuous closure applies throughout XTERRA World Championship activities. Additional temporary road closures, traffic-control points, and detours will be in effect during individual events.

Friday, October 9 — 5K Run

No road closures are planned for the 5K Run.

Traffic-control points will be in place, and motorists should use caution and watch for runners in the following areas:

  • Woodland Drive

  • Resort Drive

  • Wingfield

  • Grindstone Canyon near Wingfield

Saturday, October 10 — Full Championship

The following additional road closures begin at 8:30 AM:

Resort Drive
Sunrise Court to Grindstone Canyon Road

Grindstone Canyon Road
Wingfield Street to Carrizo Canyon Road

Wingfield Street
Center Street to Keyes

Carrizo Canyon Road
Grindstone Canyon Road to Mud Canyon

Northbound traffic will remain open, while southbound traffic will be closed and available for bicyclists as indicated in the XTERRA traffic-control plan.

Saturday Detour

Traffic from the following areas will use Keyes Drive north and exit onto 5th Street:

Shadow Lane, E. Santa Rosa, Palo Alto Drive, Santa Anita Drive, Woodland Drive, Ginger Place, Clover Drive, Ridgecrest Drive, Drooping Juniper Drive, and Santa Maria Drive.

Sunday, October 11 — Sprint

The following additional road closures begin at 8:30 AM:

Resort Drive
Sunrise Court to Grindstone Canyon Road

Grindstone Canyon Road
Wingfield Street to Carrizo Canyon Road

Wingfield Street
Center Street to Keyes

Sunday Detour

Traffic from the following areas will use Keyes Drive north and exit onto 5th Street:

Shadow Lane, E. Santa Rosa, Palo Alto Drive, Santa Anita Drive, Woodland Drive, Ginger Place, Clover Drive, Ridgecrest Drive, Drooping Juniper Drive, and Santa Maria Drive.

Plan Ahead

Residents and visitors traveling through these areas during XTERRA World Championship events are encouraged to allow extra travel time, use designated detours, remain alert for athletes and pedestrians, and follow directions from traffic-control personnel.
