National Award Honors Wingfield Heritage House Museum’s “Ruidoso Rewind” for Celebrating Local History
RUIDOSO, NM, June 9, 2025 — The Village of Ruidoso is proud to announce that the Wingfield Heritage House Museum has received the 2025 Award of Excellence from the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH), recognizing the outstanding success of its original radio segment, Ruidoso Rewind.
Now in its 80th year, the AASLH Leadership in History Awards are the most prestigious national honor for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of state and local history. This year’s awards celebrate 54 standout projects, exhibits, and publications across the country.
Ruidoso Rewind airs weekly on KRUI The Mountain, the Village’s local radio station, and explores meaningful stories from Ruidoso’s past—connecting them to larger regional and national themes. The series is written and narrated by Museum Manager and Curator Stephanie Long, with production by KRUI Sound Engineer Greg Widener. Since its debut, the team has produced 60 episodes, which air Fridays at noon and are available for on-demand listening at 1490krui.com.
This award is a powerful affirmation of the impact of local storytelling. The museum has long aimed to make Ruidoso’s history feel alive, relevant, engaging, and accessible to all, and the Village is honored to see that work recognized on a national stage.
The Wingfield Heritage House Museum, located at 2813 Sudderth Drive, serves as a vibrant local history center housed in the former home of Ike Wingfield, a key figure in Ruidoso’s early development. To learn more about the museum, visit ruidoso-nm.gov/wingfield-heritage-house-museum.
