Lines Across the Land: Maps of Ruidoso and New Mexico Now on Display at Wingfield Heritage House Museum

June 29, 2026 (Ruidoso, NM) — Visitors are invited to explore the history of Ruidoso and New Mexico through a unique collection of historic maps now on display at the Wingfield Heritage House Museum.

Lines Across the Land: Maps of Ruidoso and New Mexico features maps spanning decades of local and state history, illustrating how communities, transportation routes, public lands, and settlements have evolved over time. Together, the collection offers a fascinating look at the changing landscape of Lincoln County and New Mexico while highlighting the important role maps have played in documenting exploration, development, and everyday life.

The exhibit gives residents and visitors an opportunity to see familiar places from a new perspective and gain a deeper appreciation for the region’s rich heritage.

The exhibit is currently open and will remain on display through the end of September.

Located in one of Ruidoso’s oldest homes, the Wingfield Heritage House Museum preserves and shares the stories, artifacts, and history that have shaped the community. Rotating exhibits throughout the year provide visitors with new opportunities to explore Ruidoso’s cultural heritage while showcasing items from the museum’s collections and local historical archives.

The Wingfield Heritage House Museum is located at 2813 Sudderth Drive in Ruidoso and is open Thursday through Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free.
