Beginning April 9, 2024, Mountain States Constructors, Inc. (MSCI) will start a road improvement project on N.M. 48 (Sudderth/Mechem) in Ruidoso lasting 4-6 weeks (weather permitting). The project spans from Mile Post 0 to 3.3, with mill and fill operations aiming to enhance road quality and safety. Business access remains unaffected, but drivers should expect minor delays due to lane closures. Work hours are 6 AM to 6 PM, Monday to Friday, with no weekend construction.

This financial boost comes as part of the New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) and New Mexico MainStreet (NMMS) initiative, which recently allocated $10 million in Capital Outlay Funding for public infrastructure projects in MainStreet districts across the state.

The Village of Ruidoso will host a public input meeting on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 5:30 PM to seek public input for the Village of Ruidoso Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA) Plan. The meeting will be held at the Ruidoso Community Center, 501 Sudderth Drive, Ruidoso, NM. Residents are encouraged to participate.

Ruidoso Office of Emergency Management, in coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) & the Federal Communication Commission (FCC), will take part in the nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system at approximately 12:20 PM MDT on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

Prescribed burns are set to commence on September 18, 2023, in the Smokey Bear Ranger District of the Lincoln National Forest as part of ongoing forest management and wildfire prevention efforts. Crews will focus initially on the eastern section near Grindstone Lake, particularly around Sawmill and Carrizo Canyons. Smoke will be noticeable in Ruidoso, the Mescalero Reservation, and surrounding recreational areas due to these operations.

A prescribed burn on the Smokey Bear Ranger District in the Lincoln National Forest will tentatively begin on September 14, 2023. Work will occur on the Jack’s Peak East unit, a 250-acre area east of Ancho. Operations will cease or be canceled on short notice if it is determined that conditions are not optimal.
