Village of Ruidoso Announces Public Input Meetings for FY 2028–2032 Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan
The Village of Ruidoso will host two public input meetings for the FY 2028–2032 Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan (ICIP). Residents are encouraged to attend and provide feedback on future infrastructure needs, capital improvement priorities, and long-range community planning projects. Meetings will be held May 21 at the Ruidoso Community Center and May 27 at Village Hall.
Ruidoso Launches First Commercial Airline Service to Denver from Sierra Blanca Regional Airport
Ruidoso launches its first commercial airline service with nonstop Contour Airlines flights between Sierra Blanca Regional Airport (RUI) and Denver International Airport (DEN) starting June 25, 2026. The new route enhances regional access, supports tourism, and connects the community to national and global destinations.
Community Development Update: 603 Mechem Drive Workforce Housing Project
Construction of the 603 Mechem Workforce Housing Development in Ruidoso is nearing completion, expanding long-term affordable housing for local residents. Paving, landscaping, and utility work continue, with final inspections underway on select homes as the Village moves closer to welcoming residents.
Free Well Water Testing in Ruidoso Set for March 28
Free well water testing will be available to Ruidoso residents on Saturday, March 28 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 2917 Sudderth Drive. Open to private well owners, the event is free for the first 100 participants. Residents must bring their own water samples. Results will be mailed within two to three weeks.
Community Meeting Scheduled March 25 on Emergency Watershed Protection Program (EWP)

Lincoln County and partner agencies will host a community meeting on March 25 at ENMU–Ruidoso to share information about the Emergency Watershed Protection Program (EWP), including voluntary property buyout options, eligibility, and next steps following recent fire and flood impacts. A virtual attendance option is also available.
Ruidoso Police Department Announces Spring 2026 Citizens Police Academy
The Ruidoso Police Department is now accepting applications for the Spring 2026 Citizens Police Academy, held March 5–May 7 on Thursdays from 6–9 PM. This community program offers residents an inside look at local law enforcement operations. Apply by February 26, 2026. Graduation will be held May 15.
Camelot Thinning Project Underway as Part of Countywide Wildfire Readiness Effort
A new thinning project is underway on Lower Crown Drive in the Camelot area of Ruidoso to improve neighborhood safety and reduce wildfire risk. As part of the WUI Barrier Project, crews will thin 20 acres and begin treatments across 250 contracted acres. Residents may see equipment and posted signage in active areas as this multi-year wildfire mitigation effort progresses.

Get your Christmas Tree-cutting Permit for Lincoln National Forest
Christmas tree permits for Lincoln National Forest are available online through Dec. 31 and in person at the Ruidoso and Cloudcroft district offices, Nov. 17–Dec. 24. Permits cost $10 plus a $2.50 online fee. Cutting begins Nov. 17. Fourth graders with an Every Kid Outdoors pass qualify for a free permit. Check Recreation.gov for maps, designated areas, and current forest alerts. There is a limit of one permit per household.
Elk Meadows Workforce Housing Project Remains on Schedule
Construction is progressing on Elk Meadows Apartments, a 72-unit workforce housing community north of Mechem Drive. Funded through state and federal programs, the project will provide 126 bedrooms and a community center for local workers and families. Construction began in May 2025, with move-ins expected in early 2027.
Village Updates Lead and Copper Service Line Inventory to Ensure Safe Drinking Water
The Village of Ruidoso is updating its Lead and Copper Service Line Inventory to meet EPA requirements and ensure safe drinking water. Some residents will receive letters requesting information to update Village records. No lead has been detected. This proactive step helps identify and replace older pipes if needed.
