Village of Ruidoso Planning & Zoning

PLANNING & ZONING

The Ruidoso Community Economic Development Department is responsible for ensuring development and land use practices that make for livable neighborhoods, a safe and healthy community, and a sustainable economy.

The planning division of the Community Economic Development Department works with the Village Council, Ruidoso Planning Commission, and citizens to guide land use and future development in the Village of Ruidoso, including building permits and inspections.

BUILDING PERMITS & FORMS

Permits are required to ensure that works meet minimum safety codes and standards. The permitting process also allows the Village to determine whether or not the project is in a flood zone. Village of Ruidoso Inspectors issue permits for all residential and commercial structures. Visit our Building, Permits & Inspections page.

INSPECTIONS

If you do work without a permit, it may affect your ability to sell your property at a future date as lenders often request proof of inspections for any changes made to a building. The Village of Ruidoso Inspectors must inspect all construction projects for both residential and commercial structures.

RUIDOSO AFFORDABLE HOUSING PLAN

The purpose of the Ruidoso Affordable Housing Plan is to identify housing needs and barriers to housing development within the Village and propose goals and implementation steps aimed at addressing housing needs. This report conforms to the guidelines set forth by the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority (MFA), which administers grants and technical support to New Mexico’s municipalities and counties for affordable housing.

METROPOLITAN REDEVELOPMENT PLAN

The purpose of the Metropolitan Redevelopment Plan - DRAFT (MRA Plan) is to promote economic development in the Midtown district and the adjacent commercial districts that are the gateways into Midtown. The plan will provide opportunities for rehabilitation or redevelopment of designated areas by private enterprise. Commercial areas that are underperforming can benefit from the public investments that are enabled by the Metropolitan Redevelopment Code.

NEW MEXICO MAINSTREET PROGRAM

The Village of Ruidoso is a participating community of New Mexico MainStreet, a partnership created to help to the village improve the physical environment of Midtown and create a climate for new Ruidoso businesses and creative entrepreneurs.
