Camelot Thinning Project Underway as Part of Countywide Wildfire Readiness Effort

Nov. 26, 2025 (Ruidoso, NM)—The Village of Ruidoso and Lincoln County have launched a new thinning operation in the Camelot neighborhood as part of the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Barrier Project, a key component of the Lincoln County Wildfire Readiness Initiative. Work began today on Lower Crown Drive, covering an initial 20-acre area.

The project includes chainsaw thinning and the selective use of heavy equipment to remove dead trees and reduce hazardous fuels. Crews will place signage in all active work zones to ensure public safety.

Across Camelot, approximately 250 acres have already secured landowner agreements for treatment. These areas will be thinned to current Ruidoso Ordinance Standards, supporting long-term wildfire mitigation and improved defensible space. Additional acreage may be included as the multi-year project progresses.

Residents are encouraged to use caution around active work areas and follow posted signage. The Village will continue to share updates as the project advances.
